  1. Do they really have “blue grass” there?

  2. absolutely

  3. thanks Paige for the response…

I did a little homework and found this tidbit that might shed some light on the subject…

Bluegrass is named for the seed heads, which appear during the spring and summer when allowed to grow to a natural height of two to three feet.

An unmown field of seeding poa pratensis waving in a June breeze is unmistakably blue. If it appears otherwise, something is wrong with the eye of the beholder, and he or she should consult an ophthalmologist.

In the Bluegrass Country, as in most of suburban America, the grass is seldom allowed to reach maturity. We’ve cultivated a taste for manicured pastures as well as lawns. It seems that a whole generation of citified Americans is growing up without knowing how blue a stand of bluegrass can be. Let’s hope they will get a chance someday to rest a spell and experience the beauty that nature can provide when we don’t mess with it.

Okay, just as I’m usually the first one in a buffet line with my dinner plate, I will also be the first to pose a question here on the Marlette’s blog: In Kentucky, are you allowed to hang a mounted deer head on your living room wall if you didn’t shoot the deer yourself? Never having bagged a buck myself, I’m quite ignorant about these things. Please, inquiring minds want to know!
